Issa Rae - Issa Dee, Insecure

Insecure : Issa, a young African-American woman in her early thirties, challenges her life and her plans through new and sometimes surreal experiences.

Issa Rae is an American actress, writer, director and producer. She has made a name for herself on YouTube as a creator of web series such as Akward Black Girl, First and The Choir. She makes the fight against stereotypes her trademark and does not hesitate to stage the setbacks of awkward black women. Pharrell Williams also called on her to feed his own web-series. She then created a site dedicated to the dissemination of mainly African-American artists, in order to fight against the clichéd representations of African-Americans on television.

She gained notoriety in 2016 with her series Insecure, derived from her web series Awkward Black Girl, which earned her numerous nominations and awards. In 2018, she landed a supporting role in the critically acclaimed film The Hate U Give: La Haine qu'on donne. She later landed the lead role in the romantic comedy American Princess, and then signed a contract with Columbia Pictures and her own production company ColorCreative to promote the emergence of young African-American talent in Hollywood. In 2019, she helped produce, through her new label Raedio, the track Kinda Love by singer TeaMarrr. The following year, she starred in the film The Lovebirds, of which she is also the executive producer.

At the same time, she worked on A Black Lady Sketch Show, a series of sketches written, directed and performed by black women, with a cast of well-known African-American actresses such as Angela Bassett, Tia Mowry, Lena Waithe and Yvette Nicole Brown.
