Maitreyi Ramakrishnan - Devi Vishwakumar, Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever is an American television series and comedy-drama created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. It follows the life of Devi, an Indian-American teenager who, after the sudden death of her father and a horrible first year of college, wants to change her social status. But the people around her and the emotions she constantly represses don't make it easy.

Devi Vishwakumar is an outgoing, witty, and studious 16-year-old Indian-American high school student who is succeeding in her studies. Overachiever, fairly competitive, and blessed with an innate charisma, she has a wild nature and an unwavering sense of loyalty to the people she cares about. She also has a strong temper and a short fuse, which often gets her into difficult situations. Compassionate towards others, she nevertheless has an impeccable tendency to run away from her problems by constantly repressing her emotions, which never works in her favor.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is a Canadian actress. Of Sri Lankan Tamil origin, her family came to Canada as refugees from the civil war in Sri Lanka. She started acting in tenth grade, performing in school plays.

Wishing to become an actress, she enrolled in the theater program at York University in Toronto, but decided to postpone her entry so she could star in the Netflix series "Never Have I Ever". Indeed, spotted by Mindy Kaling while she had no professional experience, she was selected to play the lead role in the series. Her performance, which received very positive reviews, earned her nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards, the Canadian Screen Awards, the MTV Movie & TV Awards and the People's Choice Awards.

Since that runaway success, Ramakrishnan has participated in "Acting for a Cause", a live-read series, to raise money for a local Chicago hospital battling the Covid-19 pandemic. She also hosted the livestream segment of the Children's and Youth Programming Category at the 8th Annual Canadian Screen Awards. In 2022, she was announced as the Ambassador for the American Eagle clothing brand's "Member's Always: Future Together" campaign, and lent her voice to two animated characters, Priya Mangal in the Pixar film "Turning Red", and Zipp Storm in the "My Little Pony" franchise.

She will soon make her film debut in the Netflix romantic comedy "The Netherfield Girls", a contemporary adaptation of Jane Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice".
