Amanda Tapping

Actress, Producer, Director and Activist.

Amanda Tapping is a British-Canadian actress and director. She began her career in theatre. In 1988, she appeared in Shakespeare's La Mégère apprivoisée. She participated in commercials, then began to make a few appearances in series such as The X-Files and The Outer Limits.

In 1997, she won her first lead role, Samantha Carter, in the Stargate SG-1 series. This series makes her internationally known. She will also direct an episode of Season 7, and will also take over this role in the spin-offs Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. Stargate SG-1 will win her many nominations and awards, including the "Best Female Performance in a Dramatic Series" award at the Leo Awards, an award she has won three times (in 2002, 2004 and 2005).

In 2007, she played the lead role in the Sanctuary series, of which she is also one of the executive producers. She also produced a few episodes for many series such as Primeval: New World in 2012/2013, Continuum in 2013/2014, Strange Empire and Van Helsing in 2014, The Magicians in 2016, Anne in 2017/2018, Siren in 2018 and Supernatural from 2017 to 2019.

She is also one of the directors of the Travelers series, in which she makes several appearances in seasons 2 and 3.

Amanda Tapping is an ambassador for UNICEF, which defends the rights of children around the world. She is also a member of Women In Film & Television Vancouver, which celebrates women in film and television in Canada and is part of the global association WIFTI in 35 countries.

In 2009, she founded her charity "Sanctuary for Kids", which helped children who are abused, exploited or in precarious situations. The funds raised finance existing programmes in places where urgent assistance is needed and where the additional financial support can help to advance the situation. All donations go directly to children and the charities that support them. The association closed its doors definitively on 31 December 2018.

In 2014, she recieved an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from University of Windsor. 

Last March, she participated to BITE THE BULLET Stories. An organization that features celebrities, social influencers, and everyday people ‘biting the bullet’ who share their personal experiences of hardships, triumphs and determination for change.
