La Reina del Sur is a Spanish-Colombian-American series. It tells the story of Teresa Mendoza, an attractive young woman who likes to live dangerously and who happens to be the girlfriend of a very influential drug trafficker. The latter becomes the man to kill, forcing Teresa to flee the South American continent to Spain to stay alive.
Kate del Castillo is a Mexican actress. She began her career in 1980 by participating in the film The Last Escape, but it was in 1991 that she became famous thanks to the telenovela Muchachitas in which she played the role of Leticia. She was named "Star of the Year" in 2007, then Ambassador of the Mexican Commission of Human Rights in 2009. She also helped launch the Blue Heart campaign, which raises awareness and fights against human trafficking. She was named one of the "25 most influential women" in 2011 by the Spanish edition of People magazine.
